The Capital Quiz is the long-running annual knock-out quiz tournament for teams of 3 people, with a prize of the Capital Quiz Trophy and £300 for the winning team (sponsor The Black Cap). Runners-up and semi-finalists also win prizes. It is gearing up for the 2007 Quiz. This year’s charity beneficiary is again the Food Chain. Last year the Capital Quiz raised over £500 for them.
Teams can consist of groups of friends, or represent a pub, social group or charity. In the past, for example we have had teams from Gay Times, Diva, Gay Switchboard, Football Supporters, Lesbian and Gay Archive, Black Cap and Central Station, as well as groups of individuals. Any team of 3 can enter, and there is no fee. Last year 26 teams entered.
The preliminary elimination rounds take place on the four Mondays January 15th – February 5th, and beyond that we move ever Monday through Quarter-Finals and Semis to the Grand Final on March 12th. All rounds are in the downstairs bar of the Black Cap; Kick-off is 8pm. Quiz Master is Peter Scott-Presland of Homo Promos Theatre Company.
The questions cover the range of subjects usually covered by Pub Quizzes, with perhaps a bit less emphasis on celebrity trivia than you might get elsewhere. But music, movies, literature and the dreaded Sport all feature. As it’s a gay-tinged quiz, we try to put in a few camp questions in each round. The Quiz Nights also feature opportunities for members of the audience to take part; there’s no entrance fee, and The Black Cap lays on Eats as well.
The Quiz draw to decide who plays in which Preliminary will take place on Monday December 4th. It will be made by Titti la Camp, and there will be a pub quiz as well. SO GET YOUR TEAM TOGETHER NOW
